The Heart Behind the Kitchen
Food is more than nourishment — it is a celebration, a gathering, a taste of home. At Ma Lillit, every dish carries the warmth of family and the rich, diverse flavors of Trinidad, the Land of the Hummingbird. Though Trinidad is 2,200 miles away, your experience here makes the journey daily.
Inspired by the matriarchs who nurtured communities with their cooking, our menu reflects the African, Indian, Asian, Spanish, and Syrian influences that shape Trinidadian cuisine. Located in Bed-Stuy, we open our doors with the same generosity as our grandmother, inviting you to share in our laughter, music, and unforgettable flavors.
"Our mission: to build connection through food, uplift our community, and honor the legacy of the women who inspired it all."
At Ma Lillit, every meal is a memory in the making, and every guest is famalay. Welcome home.
Our menu reflects the African, Indian, Asian, Spanish, and Syrian influences that shape Trinidadian cuisine — honoring every tradition that built the island.
Located in Bed-Stuy, we source locally, hire locally, and invest in the neighborhood that welcomed us. Our doors are open to everyone — this is your home too.
We open our doors with the same generosity as our grandmother — with laughter, music, and food that makes strangers feel like family before the first bite.
Famalay — Trinidadian for chosen family. Every person who walks through our doors is welcomed as one of our own. That is not a slogan. That is how we cook.
How We Got Here
Raised in a Trinidadian household where cooking was a daily act of love. Ma Lillit — the matriarch — was the center of every meal, every celebration, every memory worth keeping. Her kitchen was the heart of the community.
After settling in Brooklyn, a vision took shape — a restaurant that would carry the soul of Trinidad into one of the world's most vibrant food cities. A place where culture, community, and cuisine could live together authentically.
352 Malcolm X Boulevard became the home of Ma Lillit. From the very first night, guests said the same thing: "This feels like home." That was exactly what we were going for.
A beloved Bed-Stuy gathering place. Private events. Family nights. Brunch memories. And still, the same commitment to flavor, love, and no shortcuts.
